Chaos on the Korean peninsula. The Kim dynasty has collapsed. Chinese military forces have moved in to “restore order.” The incursion stuns the United States and her allies. North Korean generals in command of nuclear forces are rumored to be defecting. To whom? Intelligence is unreliable. Tensions are rising in Europe, too. The U.S. has deployed next-generation missile defenses to Poland. To “defend Arctic shipping,” NATO prepares the largest maritime maneuver since the Cold War. In response, the Russian Northern Fleet moves to high alert.

The outcome is in your hands. Which role will you play?

Provide your best analysis as the National Security Advisor to the American President. Lead a Joint Strategic Command of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Or defend the interests of 1.4 billion people as a high-ranking member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China.

What is this event?

This 1-day immersive global crisis exercise is hosted by the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University. Incubated at the Davis Center Negotiation Task Force, this strategic war game offers an opportunity for international and national security practitioners with government, academic, military, and NGO backgrounds to step outside their daily routine and practice advanced negotiation and decision-making skills in a highly realistic international crisis scenario.

Why should I participate?

Combining military war gaming and diplomatic multi-stakeholder negotiation simulation, participants will:

  • Communicate in a dynamic and complex information environment ripe with cognitive traps.
  • Experience the hazards of great power competition and barriers to international cooperation.
  • Lead within and across hierarchies, organizational cultures, and political systems.
  • Engage with pressing global security challenges, including state collapse, nuclear confrontation, WMD terrorism, and U.S.-Russia-China relations.

When does this take place?

Friday, Nov. 30—4pm to 10pm: Scenario briefing, receipt of background reading, and individual preparation
Saturday, Dec. 1—8am to 8pm: Red Horizon global crisis exercise
Sunday, Dec. 2—8am to 3pm: Scenario debrief with Davis Center experts

Where does this take place?

Harvard University Campus, Cambridge, MA, USA

Interested in running a wargame?

We’re hiring “Wargame Specialists” to create and manage the immersive environment. Specialists will receive assignments based on their skills, interests, and the simulation’s staffing needs. Many assignments will involve managing communication flows or operating computer systems to implement military decisions. All assignments will be carried out in character, such as a “battle watch commander” or “secure communications officer” or “Secret Service agent.” Find out more here: http://www.hireculture.org/jobdetails.aspx?job_id=32828
