We’ve covered Treasure Trapped a bunch in the past. We started following their work months and months ago when they were getting their Kickstarter funded, so we’re pretty stoked to finally debut their official trailer to the world! They’ve been working hard to create a world-class documentary about larp that is fair, balanced, and makes larpers look great instead of like a joke.
Personally, I’m blown away by how good this looks. If the trailer is any sign for how good the film is going to be it will no doubt put to shame just about any larp documentary done to date. I liked way too many things about this to list them all, but here are just a few:
- They drew me straight into the story of some larp I can’t identify, which means, they probably get larp: It’s about a story!
- They went way out of their way to film a lot of different larps. Everything from Post-Apocalyptic, to Sci-Fi with the Monitor Celestra to a great-looking fantasy larp. That’s a much better picture of what larp actually is.
- Seahawks! (I’m from Seattle.)
- They showed real people telling real stories. That’s huge! Most documentaries go out of their way to make larpers look as abnormal as possible. It’s really fun to see some larpers that are just normal joes who happen to participate in the best hobby in the world.
Currently, the team from Cosmic Joke is busy putting the finishing touches on the film. They’re heading to Copenhagen this month to film Panopticorp. Additionally, they showed some of their footage at Knutepunkt in hopes of getting the Monitor Celestra to come to the US (which I think we would all be fans of).
When I asked the Shona Brown how the reception to the film was going so far she said that “viewing has gone worldwide … bigger than we ever thought … so we’re excited to get the rest of the film finished and shown to the world!” I couldn’t agree more. There are enough Seahawks hats being worn that a showing has to be done in Seattle, right?
